Common academic vocabulary is the foundation on which students may learn about thinking and writing structure and through which we may have important conversations about thinking and writing with them. Many have begun to adopt a common academic vocabulary. However, common academic vocabulary is only the beginning of transformative practice. If we want students to truly grow in their thinking and writing (and any other skills really), then we must give them meaningful feedback and then require that they make corrections - in thinking and in writing. This session offers a process through which students have successfully transformed their writing. You will walk away with a clear understanding of the process, materials for immediate application, and ideas about modifying the process for grade-level and subject matter.
